LANETT MASONIC LODGE #656 March 24, 2020
I’m glad to be addressing you again and hope this message finds you well and in good spirits. The Covid-19 (CV-19 or Corona Virus) pandemic that has reached our shores has taken a toll on our lodge activities as well as bringing new members into our fraternity. We currently have 1 candidate waiting to be initiated and 1 potential candidate in the wings working to get his petition in order for an investigation and vote. Unfortunately, we’ve also had to cancel a couple of our biggest fundraisers this spring due to the CV-19 pandemic and the suspension of all Masonic activities until the end of April as per the Grand Master’s orders. The Grand Lodge will take another look at things at the end of April and provide direction to our lodges at that time. Hopefully, this epidemic will be on its way out. So far we have cancelled a Chicken Que in March and our Bass Tournament in April. We have a car show planned for May 9th but will have to see how that comes about.
Some good news! This year, Lanett Masonic Lodge won the Grand Masters Traveling Gavel not once but twice! Since the Grand Master has suspended all Masonic Activities and the Gavel resides at Lanett #656, it may remain with us for a record breaking duration.
We are a very busy lodge with an annual bass fishing tournament, 2 classic car shows and a couple of raffles and chicken ques along the way. We are helping our Widows and Brothers in need, they making application to us and us finding them worthy. Last year, working with the Christian Service Center, we sponsored some down on their luck families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. We bought food and toys for them and helped make the holidays a little brighter.
Sadly, we had two of our lodge members pass away this Masonic year. Brother John Harrell Carmichael Jr. passed away on August 06, 2019 and Brother William Autrey Bonner passed away on October 20, 2019. These Brothers will be sorely missed. Please keep their families in your prayers.
We are continuing to grow in membership and are looking at different fundraising activities that will make some changes to our fund building. We hope to see you at our next meeting. Come be a part of our Lodge and get back in the Brotherhood of Masons.
